2. Anti-mutation effect Rats were fed various doses of turmeric (mixed into feed) for 3 months, then intraperitoneally injected with benzopyrene or 3-methylcholanthrene. The mutagenicity of urine was detected by Salmonella typhus. The mutagenicity of benzopyrene or 3-methylcholanthrene could be inhibited by turmeric feed above 0.5% in rats, and the feeding and weight gain of rats were not affected by turmeric, and histological examination showed no change. Curcumin can inhibit the mutagenicity of several environmental mutagens (cigar, cigarette smoke, tobacco and malt extract, benzopyrene, dimethylbenzanthracene, etc.) in a dose-effect relationship. Curcumin can change the metabolic activation and detoxification of mutagens.
3. Antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects Curcumin and volatile oil have better antibacterial effect on Staphylococcus aureus. Turmeric extract can inhibit many kinds of fungi. Curcumin has obvious inhibitory effect on experimental inflammation in mice and rats, has anti-inflammatory effect on rheumatoid arthritis, and has certain effect on reducing spermatic cord edema and tenderness.
